Wilma Mankiller：好时光和坏

Wilma Mankiller是Cherokee Nation的第一个女性主任。她努力为她的人民获得更好的教育和医疗保健，但她自己的生活并不容易。

Mankiller女士于1945年11月出生于俄克拉荷马州的Tahlequah。她是11名儿童之一。 Until she was 10, she lived in Mankiller Flats, Oklahoma. Then her family moved to San Francisco. The U.S. government had promised them a better life if they would move. But that better life did not happen.

有一天，曼克勒女士在车祸中。 She was not hurt, but the person in the other car died. This person was Wilma’s best friend. Later, Ms. Mankiller found out that she had myasthenia gravis, a serious muscle disease.

曼克勒女士确实帮助了她的人民，即使她有这些人的斗争。1985年，她被任命为Cherokee Nation的首席。 She was re-elected in 1987 and 1991. While she was chief, membership in the tribe increased from 55,000 to 156,000.

威尔玛曼克里斯赢得了许多荣誉。 She is in the Oklahoma Women’s Hall of Fame, the International Women’s Forum Hall of Fame, and the National Women’s Hall of Fame. She also received the Distinguished Leadership Award of the Harvard Foundation.
